Mission

The purpose of SPA shall be to promote the planning student’s professional development and growth as well as to inform other students and interested persons about the principles of regional and community planning, by encouraging the active interchange of ideas with professionals, academicians, fellow students, and the general public.

Jonathan Knight

President

Jonathan is a graduate student expecting to complete his degree in May 2012 with secondary emphases in geography, business, and economics. After graduation, Jonathan would like to persue a career in either environmenal planning with emphasis in sustainable practices or working for a regional civic organization working on comprehensive, long-term visioning and strategic planning. While not planning, you can likely find Jonathan on a golf course, climbing a Colorado 14'er, or photographing K-State sports for various media outlets.

Zach Seaman

Zach is a graduate student completing his degree in Regional and Community Planning in May 2012, with an emphasis in Geography and Spanish. Upon graduation, he is interested in pursuing a career in international development. He currently works as a student assistant at Weigel Library in Seaton Hall, but will be working at the Kansas City Design Center in the fall of 2011. In his free time, he enjoys finding new music and movies, eating healthy, exercising, traveling, and reading about urban planning issues.

Sara

Sara Wilbur is serving in her second year as Student Planning Association Treasurer. She will graduate in May 2012 with her masters in Regional and Community Planning. She hopes to work to improve community transportation and development in the future. She also is part of the Design Expo and mock interview committee in the College of Architecture, Planning and Design.

Madhuri Kulkarni

Madhuri is a first year graduate student at Kansas State University pursuing a degree in Regional and Community Planning in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Design. After graduating in May 2012 and testing the field of planning in both the public and private sectors, Madhuri hopes to become an Environmental Planner in one of the sectors to promote sustainability. She would love to work out of the office doing fieldwork and planning in developing nations. She has been the Secretary of the Student Planning Association for the past three years and records minutes at the biweekly SPA meetings.

McKennan

Eva is a graduate student who will complete her degree in May 2012. She is also a CAPD ambassador and first year student mentor. As SPA Social Chair, she organizes various social events and functions. Her planning interests include historic preservation, infrastructure, transportation, and hazard mitigation. In the future, she hopes to world with communities across the country to strengthen their disaster resilience. Outside of school, Eva enjoys traveling, playing pool, and gardening.

Graduate Student Council Rep
Jessi Preussner

Jessi is a first year Post-Bach Regional Community Planning student. She went to Wartburg College, in Waverly, Iowa, for her under grad and studied Political Science and Communication. Jessi plans to focus in on rural community development. As the Graduate Student Council Representative, she serves as a liaison between the Kansas State Graduate Students and the SPA.

5-Year Undergraduate Rep
Deanne Peterson

Deanne is an undergraduate student pursuing her degree in Regional and Community Planning and expecting to graduate in May 2014. As the Non-baccalaureate Representative, Deanne will serve as the planning liaison for SGA and hopes to get more undergraduate students involved in SPA activities. While still exploring several aspects of planning, she is interested in transportation planning and sustainable building practices. Deanne is also a member of her hall's governing board and enjoys playing soccer and volleyball in her free time.
