Final projects by a number of graduating architecture students at Kansas State University were recently selected for special recognition in the Heintzelman Prize Competition. The Heintzelman Prize is awarded annually for outstanding design achievements by students in the final semester of the College of Architecture, Planning and Design professional architecture degree program. The prize is named after J. Cranston Heintzelman, a long-time teacher in the Department of Architecture. Two students in each of the fifth-year design studio sections are selected by the faculty as Heintzelman nominees. A distinguished jury then selects one Heintzelman Prize winner from each of the five studio sections. The recipients of the 2009 Heintzelman Prize are Trent Gareis, Sterling, CO, for “The Berlin Wall Project, Berlin, Germany;” Brett Milkovich, Kansas City, MO, for “Global Exchange Forum in Stavanger, Norway;” Mark Neibling, Derby, KS, for “The Tempelhof Airport Project in Berlin, Germany;” Andrew Rutenbeck, Wichita, KS, for “A Public Bath in Yellowstone Park;” and Nicholas Turner, Jefferson City, MO, for “Sheltering Embrace: The Architecture of Hospice Care.” Nominees were Meghan Bogener, St. Charles, MO; Heather Martin, Chapman, KS; Adam Pfeifer, Hays, KS; T. J. Siemons, Kansas City, MO; and Nathaniel Smith, Lake St. Louis, MO. Studio faculty include Professors John Eck, James Jones, Ulf Meyer, Robert Morgan, Torgeir Norheim and Susanne Siepl-Coates. The five winning projects
are on display through the summer of 2009 in the Chang Gallery of Seaton Hall and
in the hallway flanking Seaton 212. They may also be viewed here. For more information,
