Changing your account password

Changing your CAPDKSU domain account password

Users have the ability to change their Windows Domain password by following the instructions below.

IMPORTANT: CAPDKSU Domain passwords expire every 180 days.

Log out of all machines

You must be logged into one (and only one) computer on the CAPDKSU network prior to attempting to change your password.  If you do not, the other computer will continue using your old password and lock your account.

NOTE: You can change your CAPDKSU domain password from any Windows workstation in the domain, including computers in the college computing lab located in Seaton Hall 111/112.

Network Logon

Turn on the Windows workstation and log in.

Change Password

Press [Ctrl][Alt][Del] keys at the same time. This will bring up the Windows Security box.

Select the Change Password. The Change Password window should display.

Enter information in each field. Use your [Tab] key to move to the next field.

User name:
Your user ID should appear here if you are logged in, so just press [Tab]
If not, type your account name in the field and then press [Tab]

Log on to:
If this reads CAPDKSU, just press [Tab]
If not, type CAPDKSU in the field and then press [Tab]

Old Password:
Type your old password and press [Tab]

If you do not remember your current password or have any problems changing your password, please visit our office at Seaton Hall 12 for further assistance.

New Password:
Type a new password and press [Tab]

Confirm New Password:
Type your new password again, then click OK

You should see a confirmation message indicating that your password has been successfully changed.

If you receive an error, please ensure your password meets the password requirements listed below and try again.

Reboot your computer

Do a normal shutdown and reboot.

When the computer restarts, use your NEW password.

Congratulations! You have changed your college account password.

Password Requirements

Your new password must meet security conditions set on the server.

Your password must

  • be at least 8 characters in length

  • contain at least 1 uppercase letter

  • contain at least 1 lowercase letter

  • contain at least 1 numeral or special character

  • be new and unique, the server remembers previous passwords and will not accept the same password twice

  • not contain your name or user name
