STEVEN HEFTA, a native of Lindsborg, Kansas, was selected in 1982 by Tau Sigma Delta honorary as the recipient of its Outstanding Student Award and by the interior architecture faculty as the outstanding graduate student in the department. During his fourth year of undergraduate studies, Hefta served a 30-week internship with Marathon Oil Company in Findlay, Ohio. Returning to campus for his fifth year of study, Hefta was selected as a teaching assistant in the interior architecture shop. After graduating Magna Cum Laude, he rejoined Marathon as an interior designer at its Houston, Texas, offices. Two years later, he moved to National Supply, a Houston division of Armco, as a facility planner and diversified his corporate staff experience. Now an Associate at the full service design firm, KPS Group, Inc. of Birmingham, Alabama, Hefta joined the office as a project designer in 1986. Among the many projects in which he has played active roles are additions and renovations at the Birmingham Museum of Art, graphics and signage for the Birmingham Airport, and space planning for a three building, 842,000 square foot BellSouth complex. Licensed as an interior designer in Alabama, Hefta is active in the Institute of Business Designers and the International Facility Management Association. |
