JONATHAN R. KNIGHT followed in the footsteps of his father, retired Topeka architect Robert Knight of Knight Remmele Architects, studying architecture at Kansas State University.

An active student, Jonathan was an officer of what was then the Student Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. As a fourth-year student, he participated in the 2003 World's Fair Design Charrette sponsored by the Saint Louis Chapter AIA. He also took part in Design Weekend '83, an urban design charrette focused on redevelopment of a five-block segment of Washington Avenue in downtown Saint Louis which was co-sponsored by the Department of Architecture and the Saint Louis Chapter AIA.

Between his fourth and fifth years of study, Jonathan enrolled in KSU's Boston Architecture Summer program administered for many years by the Department of Architecture. During his final year, Jonathan was assistant editor of Volume 6 of OZ, the journal of the College of Architecture and Design.

Upon receiving the Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1984, he accepted a position with Howard Needles Tammen and Bergendorf in Kansas City, then from 1986 through 1989 he was employed as project designer by Kansas City firm Calcara Duffendack Foss Manlove Architects.

Since 1989, he has been employed by Hellmuth Obata Kassabaum, moving from the firm's Kansas City offices to those in New York City in 1991. He was recently made an associate at HOK where his projects include a 350,000 square foot, 11 gate terminal for the JFK International Terminal Competition and a 900,000 square foot full service hospital addition to the New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center.

A registered architect and former active member of the American Institute of Architects Kansas City, Jonathan is also at work on a private residence in Andover, Kansas, with his wife and fellow 1994 Alumni Honoree Judi E. Bauer.
