CHARLES (CHUCK) MIES graduated cum laude with the Bachelor of Interior Architecture degree. His outstanding academic record was acknowledged at commencement with the 1985 Faculty Scholastic Award, given annually to the interior architecture graduate with the highest grade point average, and the 1985 Paxton Award, given each year to the interior architecture student exhibiting exemplary skills in design workshop courses. Following graduation, Mies was employed by Andra Design Associates of Wichita as Project Designer and Manager of Computer Aided Design (CAD) Services. He was promoted in 1987 to Project Manager and Manager of CAD Services, where his projects included CAD development at Southwestern Bell in Topeka, and space documentation and cafeteria prototypes for Boeing Commercial Airplane Group in Wichita. Mies' final project at ADA was the design of the Big Eight Room in KSU's Vanier football complex. His innovative lighting design for the space, used for fund raising, press conferences and student activities, was published in the October/November issue of Architectural Lighting. In early 1992, Mies joined City Blue Print of Wichita to assist in managing and developing its fledgling computer department. Under Mies' leadership, the computer department has grown into the Computer Services Division, enjoying dramatic increases in number of staff and amount of revenue, and becoming the largest dealer of Autodesk CAD software in Kansas. His primary responsibilities at City Blue Print include management of software sales, integration, networking, technology and training. Mies serves as Chair of the Autodesk Multimedia Dealer Advisory Board, the only member ever to serve a second term. Advisory board members serve a two-year term as one of eight individuals, representing more than 800 Autodesk dealers from across the nation, who advise Autodesk, the largest worldwide manufacturer of CAD software, about development and policy issues. Life-long Wichita area residents, Mies and his wife have three sons.
