Michael Knapp received the Master of Landscape Architecture in 1983 from Kansas State University. In the years since his matriculation, Knapp has received much professional recognition for his work, and he credits much of his success to the education he received at K-State.

After graduation, Knapp worked with two leading landscape architecture firms, Land Design Research, Inc. of Columbia, Maryland, and Miceli Kulik Williams, Inc. of New York City. The scope of his work for these firms included large-scale land planning, site planning, detailed drawings, specifications and project management.

In 1993, Knapp founded his own firm, Knapp and Associates, Inc., located in Convent Station, New Jersey. The firm offers a wide range of landscape architectural services with an emphasis on construction management. Over the past nine years, the firm has successfully designed and managed the installation of hundreds of projects.

During Knapp's career, his projects have been recognized by such professional organizations as the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Institute of Architects and the American Association of Nurserymen.

Knapp realized early in his professional career the value of his K-State educational experiences, and so he readily attributes a great deal of his success to the quality of teaching he was provided by the K-State landscape architecture faculty. To demonstrate his appreciation to his former instructors, to acknowledge the positive influence the faculty had on his professional career, and to enable current students to share in the challenging but rewarding experience of studying landscape architecture at K-State, Knapp has created two student scholarships named after the faculty he felt most responsible for his professional success. The Professor Dennis Day and the Professor Tony Barnes Leadership Scholarships each provide a $1,500.00 annual scholarship to deserving landscape architecture students.

Michael Knapp exemplifies the energy, innovation and dedication to quality and service that our College strives to foster in its students. We take pride in his accomplishments and delight in nominating him to receive a 2002 Kansas State University Distinguished Service Award.
