Future Vision 2009
January 2009I am pleased to present the recently developed long-range future vision (click link below) for the College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University. The development of this plan was based on the input from a broad cross-section of the College’s important constituencies including faculty, students, alumni, practitioners within the professional communities and university leadership beyond the College.
This plan has a horizon dating to 2014, representing a five-year period in the life of the College that will be marked by many opportunities as well as challenges. It is our purpose, to the extent possible in a rapidly changing world, to determine our own destiny, and the plan will facilitate that mission. This plan should focus the College on critical initiatives that will maintain our position as best-of-class planning and design programs. Further, it should reinforce our status as a center of excellence in the education of planning and design professionals as they enter the workplace.
It is important to remember that this document is a work-in-progress, serving as an asset to the College as it navigates transitions in leadership. The future vision can also facilitate the successful recruitment of new faculty and leadership during this transitional period. The plan helps us position ourselves in pursuit of an educational facility that fosters learning and research, focusing on graduate education while demonstrating the latest in sustainable technologies.
The future vision provides a means for assessing opportunities and a path for achieving our vision. That will require dedication, focus, and an appetite for the daily work that will make the vision a reality. I want to extend my appreciation to all who took the time to contribute to this endeavor. I join you in dedicating our efforts to insure a bright future for our students, faculty and staff.
