![]() Katie Kingery-Page Katie Kingery-Page holds a bachelor's degree with an emphasis in fine arts from Wichita State University. She subsequently studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Inspired by both urban design and urban decay in Chicago, she decided to pursue a career in landscape architecture and received a master of landscape architecture from Kansas State University in 2006. Before coming to K-State to pursue her education and as a visiting faculty member, Professor Kingery-Page worked in a planning, landscape architecture and engineering firm in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Since returning to Kansas, she has done planning and design work for Riley County Parks, the Air National Guard, Johnson County Stormwater, and Hallmark's Topeka Manufacturing Center. In the fall of 2008, Kingery-Page received a tenure-track appointment as an assistant professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning. Professor Kingery-Page is dedicated to student learning. She spends many hours ensuring that each of her students receives the feedback needed in order to learn what is intended. She listens very well, respects the views of others and encourages others to achieve their goals. She is approachable yet firm in seeing that students stick to anticipated student learning outcomes. Professor Kingery-Page is good at observing what has and has not worked in the classroom, and she works with purpose and direction to improve how information is delivered to students and how students can become more engaged in learning. Students admire her ability to direct them to improve their work with just the right amount of praise and criticism. She is also willing to take on projects outside the classroom through the organization of student trips and design problems in various national and international locales. A patient, thoughtful, determined and kind professor who effectively brings out the best in her students, Professor Kingery-Page also possesses a positive, enthusiastic spirit that is contagious. She is an excellent teacher who purposefully pushes students to excel and attain great accomplishments both early and late in their education. She has demonstrated growing excellence in her teaching as she has progressed from instructor to visiting professor to assistant professor through a constan--her unique talent for student engagement. Professor Kingery-Page has the ability to uphold high expectations for her students, yet to help each student to reach these expectations in his or her own unique way. Her students and peers recognize her as an artist, a teacher, a communicator and a professional. In recognition of her enthusiasm and commitment to the education of future leaders in landscape architecture and our related professions, the College of Architecture, Planning and Design is pleased to award the 2009 McElwee Faculty Teaching Award to Professor Katie Kingery-Page. |
