![]() Robert Condia Upon recommendation of students, faculty and alumni of the College of Architecture, Planning and Design, Kansas State University is privileged to acknowledge the outstanding teaching record of Professor Robert Condia. Professor Condia holds a bachelor of architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a master of science in architecture and building design from Columbia University. He joined our faculty in 1989 as an associate professor in the Department of Architecture. He was granted tenure in 1993 and promoted to professor in 2001. Professor Condia received our McElwee Teaching Award in 1996. Throughout his years at K-State, Professor Condia has consistently demonstrated exceptional skills as a teacher and designer. A committed and highly effective teacher, he actively engages his students. He stimulates their creativity and encourages them to combine, build upon, and use the skills and knowledge they acquire throughout our curriculum. As a practicing professional, Professor Condia is able to effectively communicate the important relationships between students' academic pursuits and the profession they aspire to join. His abilities as an award-winning architect and a highly skilled academic have put him in a unique position that enables him to effectively integrate the many disparate ideas and issues of the profession and the academy for the students in his courses. In his studio courses, Professor Condia is able to create a classroom environment in which all parties work effectively together, both teaching and learning from one another. As a teacher, he is demanding of his students, and he spends extraordinary amounts of time to help them succeed. His students work hard, and he receives their respect. Professor Condia's ideas help his students to focus and improve their creative abilities. His rigorous approach to his own work is a model for his students and faculty colleagues. His insistence on quality in his students' work, coupled with the opportunity for his students to observe his commitment to quality in his own work, goes a long way toward developing the standards and discipline necessary to the education of an architect. In recognition of his dedication to the architectural education of our students, the College of Architecture, Planning and Design is pleased to award the 2008 Commerce Bank Faculty Teaching Award to Professor Robert Condia. |
